A new 'Star Wars' trilogy is coming from 'The Last Jedi' director

Rian Johnson, the director behind Star Wars: The Last Jedi, will create a brand-new Star Wars trilogy, Lucasfilm announced on Thursday. As digging for secret connections between movies and books and shows is the most favorite pastime of every single hardcore Star Wars fan ever, it'll still be hard to convince them this is something new. Mark Hamill has to put the hours in for those Ahch-To scenes in, especially when it came to filming Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The news, which we saw via Deadline, was announced by Disney CEO Bob Iger during a company call to discuss its yearly and quarterly earnings with financial analysts, and later confirmed in an official post on StarWars.com.
