AIG Hamid Shakeel among 3 martyred in Quetta blast

The suicide bomber targeted DIG Hamid Shakeel's vehicle when it was passing through a residential area of the city.

Shakeel played a key role in arresting militants and members of small separatist groups in recent years, police said. He was heading the transport and telecommunication departments of police in the province.

Balochistan has been at the centre of attacks by both armed religious groups such as the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (also known as the Pakistani Taliban) and armed ethnic Baloch separatists fighting for independence from Pakistan. TTP had carried out most of the deadly attacks across Pakistan in the previous decade.

At least four vehicles and two motorcycles were also damaged in the explosion.
