Anderson County school honors veterans with annual ceremony

Su Valley Jr/Sr High School Principal, Lisa Shelby wrapped it up with encouraging words for everyone who attended the ever popular and uplifting Assembly that honors the many Veterans who call the Upper Susitna Valley home. After months of planning by the JROTC students, it went off without a hitch and brought the community together for Veterans Day.

SLEEPY EYE-Sleepy Eye's Veteran's Day Program includes programs at St. Mary's and the Public School as well as a noon lunch and an evening dinner at the Servicemen's Club.

All veterans are welcome and should plan to arrive at the school, 2900 Cyclone Dr., by 8:45 a.m. Refreshments will be served and the program should last around 45 minutes. There will be singing, video presentations, and speeches to honor veterans.

During the event, students from all grade levels performed songs such as "You're a Grand Old Flag", "Thank you, Solider" and "I love America" in front of attendees. For information, call Larry Kanfer at 217-398-2000.

ARLINGTON- A Veterans Day program will be held Friday, November 10 at the Sibley East Middle High School in Arlington in the school gym. It is held on Veterans Day, and free hot dogs are offered to veterans and troops. Program speaker is VFW Post Commander Pete Hersom.

Chris Walsh, a Marine Corps veteran, former police chief and Casper city councilman, will serve as master of ceremonies.

The children wore knit hats, mittens and winter jackets as they joined veterans and military personnel in dress uniform at an outdoor ceremony Thursday morning, two days before the actual November 11 federal holiday.

Free auto wash for veterans and military personnel from 8 a.m.to 5 p.m.at Westville vehicle Wash, 800 S. State St.to honor and recognize those that have and are serving.

The formal Veterans Day ceremony is at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Tom Walsh Chapel at the Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery in Evansville.
