Powered by a supercharged LT5 6.2-litre V8 that's also good for 715 lb-ft of torque, the ZR1 is capable of a claimed top speed of 338 km/h (210 mph)-the only performance metric Chevrolet has revealed about the vehicle.

The Corvette ZR1 will go on sale next year but Chevrolet isn't revealing the all important number on the price just yet.

GM revealed the auto at a studio sound stage on Sunday, and it will be featured at the Dubai Motor Show on Tuesday where it will be shown with many other six- and seven-figure luxury vehicles.

A low-wing pack is available to maximise the ZR1's top speed, while a two-way-adjustable high wing generates more downforce and is designed for faster lap times. As such, it features 755 horsepower and 715 pounds per feet of torque.

Married to the engine is either a seven-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic with steering wheel paddle shifters.

N. Korea blasts Trump's 'warmonger' Asia tour
The Korean Central News Agency referred to Trump on Saturday as a "destroyer" and a "dotard" who "begged for nuclear war". Also on the trip, Mr Trump met with Russian President Vladimir Putin several times on the margins of a summit in Vietnam.

Executive vice president, Global Product Development, Purchasing and Supply Chain at Chevrolet, Mark Reuss, said: "I've never driven a Corvette like this before, and nobody else has either, because there's never been one like this before". And two rear wing styles are available, each tied directly to the car's chassis as in the Corvette C7.R racing auto.

GM says that, on the racetrack, the new ZR1 is the highest-performing Vette in the nameplate's production history.

Powering the vehicle is the LT5 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine, but it now features a new intercooled supercharger system (52 percent more displacement than the Z06) and GM's first dual-fuel-injection system. The bonnet features a new carbon-fibre "halo" design specially developed to help cool the big engine. The ZR1 also comes equipped with Chevy's first dusl fuel direct injection system with supplemental port injection. The Z06 can bust through the 0-60-mph barrier in under three seconds, so expect the ZR1 to chop several tenths off that time. Pricing has not been announced. Aside from giving it a very noticeable Sebring Orange hue, it also paints the brake calipers, rocker and splitter accents, seat belts and interior contrast stitching with the brightly-colored hue. The driver-focused, well-appointed cockpit includes standard leather-trimmed seats, with sueded microfiber inserts offered.

The wait is over: this is the 2019 Chevy Corvette ZR1 and boy, it looks ready to shred tires and punish some asphalt. Additional extras available include a Bose audio system, performance data recorder, and heated and vented Nappa-leather trimmed seats.
