According to a statement given to TechCrunch by an Apple representative, the company is delaying the release of its HomePod speaker systems until next year.

The delay could be related to obtaining the raw materials for the HomePod's components, as John Martellaro suggested on Friday's TMO Daily Observations podcast.

The $349 HomePod was unveiled in June and pitched as a premium music speaker with Siri voice controls. The company didn't give a reason for the delay, other than the product needing "a little more time before it's ready for our customers". Apple HomePod will be its first big new hardware product since the Apple Watch.

It can also, like the Amazon Echo or Google Home, set reminders, timers and find out news, traffic and sports reports.

It has a seven-beam forming tweeter array to fill a room multi-directionally, plus a 4-inch woofer for bass control. Apple announced the device at its developer conference in June. Where Apple does fall short is providing a smart experience with Siri. "It's the best sounding connected speaker we've ever heard", says Bajarin. HomePod will be a while before we see it on sale and available to the public. Google and Apple, two companies that lead the mobile technological front, both have plans to bring their most powerful smart speakers to the market this holiday season; however, it seems Apple's metaphorical pie needs a little more time in the oven.

"When HomePod comes out, you'll probably hear some great content from artists that are familiar and popular, and there's probably going to be some other special aspects as well", he said.
