Maruti Suzuki may launch e-car before 2020

The companies said Suzuki will produce the electric vehicles and supply some to Toyota, which will provide technical support. The first phase of 500 vehicles is being supplied by the two successful bidders - Tata Motors and Mahindra and Mahindra.

For example, the Chinese-owned London Electric Vehicle Company is already selling the most environmentally friendly London taxi ever, with technology that could in the future be used in delivery vans and domestic cars, too.

Recently, Maruti couldn't take an interest in the offer for providing electric vehicles to the Union government.

Toyota President Akio Toyoda said in September the company is a "little bit late" in the EV segment, even as rival automakers rush into the segment before China's cap-and-trade policy linked to zero- and low-emission vehicles kick in from 2019. Prior in the month, Toyota Motor, Mazda and Denso made the declaration of a dare to create key innovation plans for batteries and engines of various sort of vehicles. Toyota's joint venture partners in the China are FAW Group Corp and Guangzhou Automobile Group.
