The news was revealed in the premiere episode of the network's new show, "Floribama Shore", last Tuesday, Nov. 28.

MTV recently announced the return of the original "Jersey Shore" cast members for a new series called "Jersey Shore Family Vacation".

One star noticeably absent from the list, however, was Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola - and fans were quick to comment about it on social media.

The show, built in the image of "Jersey Shore", follows the lives of eight young Southerners living together - and partying together - in a beach house in Panama City, Fla.

Back By Popular Demand: Jersey Shore Is Returning To MTV

The show will air on MTV in 2018, though it's unclear whether it will be a one-off special, a limited run, or an actual series added to MTV's lineup. At its peak in 2011, the unscripted program about a gang of salty-talking, sun-worshiping party lovers lured an average of 9 million viewers an episode, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

There's no way of knowing how many people would have actually sat down to watch the premiere of the new show if MTV hadn't teased news about Jersey Shore (but judging from the reactions I'd say not many).

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water.

When MTV announced it was airing Floribama Shore, a Jersey Shore spinoff set in the South, the original cast of Jersey Shore didn't seem too into the idea.
