Destiny 2's Ghost Gets an Amazon Alexa Skill and Replica Speaker

Amazon announced plans to bring its Echo devices into conference rooms and cubicles through a platform called Alexa for Business.

Amazon is far from the only major player in the voice control space.

Amazon has released tools to accelerate third-party development around Alexa, and today Amazon boasts more than 20,000 third-party skills that people can install and then summon from Alexa.

Alexa is Amazon's "intelligent personal assistant" that runs through its voice-activated Echo devices.

Gartner research analyst Thomas O'Connor said many Australian retailers had been keenly anticipating Amazon's local launch and expected it to affect spending this holiday season.

He said the arrest announcement would generate more questions than answers, but promised more updates in the case Wednesday. Police received a tip around 2:40 p.m. that a patron at a Ybor City McDonald's had a gun in a bag inside the restaurant.

Around the office, Alexa for Business can handle tasks like notifying IT of an equipment issue, or finding and booking an open conference room-all with just a few words. You can ask to equip based on damage type (Void, Solar or Arc), as well as Kinetic, Energy or Power.

In addition to finalising its website, Amazon reportedly paid $7 million for 2.11 hectares of vacant land in Sydney's south-west, adding to its warehouse in Melbourne's Dandenong South.

The internet-connected speakers, which can be used to order goods from Amazon or control other smart devices, will compete with Google Home and, when launched, Apple's HomePod.

That is a departure from Amazon's normal requirement that Alexa devices be tied to a shopper's Prime account to unlock all features. Users will also be able to access their company's apps from home devices, checking what's on their office calendar and remotely joining meetings. To start, Alexa for Business will let workers ask the virtual assistant to do things like schedule meetings, order supplies and coordinate travel through partnerships with existing office tools like Microsoft Exchange and Concur. For example, you can say "Alexa, ask Ghost to...[fill in the blank with a number of pre-set commands]" or ask "What should I do next?" to get recommendations on where to go next.

"As part of the developer preview, we built a private Alexa for Business skill that allows our teams to quickly check the status on our systems, or to request specific updates on high severity events, but we needed a way to make this available to our teams without publishing it in the Alexa Skills Store".
