Google has announced it is cracking down on apps that seek to push advertisements to Android users through the device's lockscreen.

Datally is made by Google's Next Billion Users division whose mission is to make the internet more accessible in developing nations.

Once the Data Saver is turned on, the Datally's Data Saver Bubble which serves like a speedometer will appear when a user goes into an application in which it will show the running data usage of the certain app. Keep in mind Google Datally is now available only for Android users.

"Mobile data is expensive for many people around the world".

"That's why we built Datally, an app that helps you to control, save more and do more with your data", Caesar Sengupta, Vice President, Next Billion Users, Google, said in a blogpost. The app is primarily intended for users in India and Southeast Asia, where it is common to use prepaid SIM cards with a limited amount of data.

The app will also allow you access to a graph on usage daily, weekly, monthly wherein below you'll see which apps are consuming most, so that you can restrict or enable their access to data.

In the latest update to their Google Play Developer policy, Google has begun advising developers that apps that display ads in the lockscreen, unless that app is for a lockscreen, will no longer be allowed on the Play Store. Over time, Datally will learn your usage patterns and offer more recommendations to save data.

Accessing contacts, calendar events, call logs, photos, Wi-Fi encryption keys, and a list of all locally installed apps. But as a tool to manage your bandwidth, Datally is a nice step up from the default data tracking feature in Android and whatever app your carrier may have come up with.

Along with showing real-time smartphone data use, Datally reveals which apps are involved and lets people stop them as they wish. If you are using Android, you can also limit your data consumption by navigating to Settings Mobile data usage and set a data limit.

Datally works on Android smartphones with Lollipop (5.0) or newer versions of the Google-backed mobile operating system. Datally will tell you if you're near public Wi-Fi and help you connect.
