When Bhansali said he was already suffering financial loss and the film was due for release in 60 countries, panel members asked if he was trying to do business on an emotional issue.

Echoing Mr Patekar, veteran actor Rishi Kapoor spoke to news agency IANS and said, "I feel that (the release of) films in this democracy should not be curbed".

Advani, however, intervened and told the panel that a cross-examination of Bhansali was not on the agenda, The Hindu quoted a committee member as saying.

Though film has not been screened officially, there has been a pre-screening of the movie for a select people, including journalists, a few weeks ago. He said that the CBFC had only cleared the trailer and promos of the film.

Salman Khan pulls Sanjay Leela Bhansali's leg, says

Sanjay Leela Bhansali has quizzed by the house that how can the panel had announced the release of the movie on December 1, when the official application was only made on November 11. "I gave him two hits - "Khamoshi" and "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam" and he took Shah Rukh in the next one (Devdas)", he joked.

Bhansali and Joshi appeared before the standing committee, while the CBFC chief deposed before the Lok Sabha panel as well. Joshi alleged that Bhansali tried to undermine the board's importance. Among those who attended the meeting included Congress' Raj Babbar and BJP patriarch LK Advani. Bhansali responded that during his 30 years as a filmmaker he had never stooped to such a level, said sources. The TMC, specifically, has raised objections over people commenting on the film without seeing it. "The date of the next meeting has not been fixed yet but hearings will go on".

BJP MP Anurag Thakur issued a statement yesterday which read, "Taking a stand to bring an end to the controversy, Member of Parliament Anurag Thakur-led Parliamentary Standing Committee on IT, has invited Secretary of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Chairperson of Central Board of Film Certification, along with Director of the film Sanjay Leela Bhansali, to present their views on the controversy surrounding the movie". "The members have also chose to call the producers of the movie", chairman of the panel Anurag Thakur said as quoted by India's PTI.

Superstar Salman Khan is no stranger to controversies, and the actor believes rows such as those around "Padmavati" affect the movie business adversely.
