Someone close to LaVar, who is familiar with the controversial father's thinking, told TMZ Sports that the elder Ball feels that "there's no need to break down a kid's spirit for making a mistake".

Freshman LiAngelo Ball, 19, never played for UCLA after entering as a three-star prospect from Chino Hills High School in Southern California.

LiAngelo Ball's collegiate career at UCLA has ended without ever stepping foot on the court for a regular-season game.

LiAngelo Ball, one of three UCLA basketball players placed on indefinite suspension following their shoplifting arrests in China, will be leaving the team and the university, officials said Monday.

LaVar Ball is notorious for doing things his way. The charges were eventually dropped, but not before the global incident made headlines when President Donald Trump tweeted that he helped free the players, which the elder Ball disputed.

As you know, LiAngelo was indefinitely suspended from the team after he stole from several stores during a trip to China.

LiAngelo Ball's outspoken father, Lavar Ball, told ESPN he made a decision to pull his son out of UCLA. I tell him to go get the victory. Currently, there's no telling how LiAngelo being pulled from the Bruins' program might affect LaMelo's commitment or if LaVar even wants to honor that commitment at this point. "The plan is now to get Gelo ready for the National Basketball Association draft".

"I haven't told any of those guys,"Lavar told ESPN".
