The beer selection includes six packs of Budweiser, Bud Light, Shock Top and Kilt Lifter, which is a favorite in the Phoenix area. You know, they just want to see how smooth it runs, see what the feedback is like, see which beers and wines people are excited about, and make some changes before they add this option to all of their delivery menus. "I think this is really one way where we can provide a unique Pizza Hut delivery experience", Pizza Hut marketing director Stacy Lynn Bourgeois told QSR Magazine.

On Tuesday the pizza chain announced plans to start testing beer and wine deliveries in certain cities.

Pizza Hut reported flat USA same-store sales in the latest quarter, when Domino's Pizza's domestic units reported a rise of 8.4 percent.

While the company says it's undecided about whether to offer full bottles or single servings of wine, it will be expanding beyond Phoenix to unknown locations after its launch in an effort to help boost sales, according to CNN Money. The pizza chain's parent company, Yum! By the end of the year, the company expects to hire 14,000 new drivers.

The inclusion of alcohol may help the pizza chain in its competition with others like Papa John's or Domino's, which only offer water and soft drinks for delivery.

Rival Papa John's global sells beer and wine at a handful of locations in the western United States and at locations in Latin America, China and Russian Federation.

Beer and wine are already now served at many Pizza Hut locations, so the brand has some advantages. Customers will be required to show their IDs at the door.
