Venom, the movie that is definitely real and not an elaborate early April Fools' hoax, will be based on some very real comic book storylines. Scott Rosenberg, Jeff Pinker and Kelly Marcel provide the screenplay.

The Mad Max: Fury Road actor also joined the Comic-Con Experience along with Fleischer.

WOODY HARRELSON is being ensnared by an offer from Sony for an undisclosed role in Venom. That's a hard enough job to do even before you consider that most of Venom's best comic book arcs involve Peter Parker in some form. It's uncertain at this stage whether or not the movies will be part of the MCU, however, and fans have been wondering how you can possibly make Venom work without Spider-Man.

As for the plot, it appears that the standalone Venom film will be inspired by two classic miniseries, Lethal Protector and Planet of the Symbiotes. The comic series is written by Michelinie and drawn by Mark Bagley, Ron Lim, and Sam Delarosa. Hardy plays the title character, Venom, a.k.a. Eddie Brock, a longstanding villain in the Spider-Man rogue's gallery.

Once in San Francisco, the wall-crawling duo battle a team of five evil symbiotes spawned from Venom's suit. The story follows Venom and Spider-Man agreeing to not fight each other so as long as Venom will stop committing crimes. He's one of Marvel's most brutal villains, created when a symbiote bonded with a psychopathic murderer.

Movie star / giant slab of well-toned meat Tom Hardy thrilled the attendees of a Comic Con in Sao Paolo, Brazil, over the weekend when he appeared on a video to spill some details about the upcoming Venom movie he's in. I remain skeptical that this movie will exist and isn't a big prank, but after looking into the elements they're pulling from the comic books, these insane kids just might be able to pull this off. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing along with Amy Pascal, with Palak Patel and Eric Fineman overseeing for Columbia Pictures.

Venom has an October 5, 2018 release directed by Ruben Fleischer also starring Jenny Slate, Michelle Williams and Riz Ahmed.
