She suspected that her family had put up their Christmas lights wrong.

According to the Erie Times-News, Pennsylvania resident Mary Horomanski saw her electric bill earlier this month was for $284 billion.

An Erie, Pennsylvania woman was surprised this week with an electric bill which equaled almost the entire GDP of the country of Chile, the Erie Times-News reported.

Horomanski texted her son who got in touch with Penelec to determine the actual amount.

The bill stated she had until November 2018 to pay all of the money; her minimum payment for December was over $28,000.

A Pennsylvania woman thought the electric bill she racked up might have something to do with her Christmas lights, but then she thought about the billions she owed and knew there must have been a mistake. Her son quickly contacted Penelec - and was told it was an error.

It was only after Horomanski's online statement was fixed that it reflected the due amount as $284.46.

Fortunately, a spokesperson for the energy company said the bill was an error after a decimal point was moved. "We appreciate the customer's willingness to reach out to us about the mistake". "I opened it up and there it was", she told the Washington Post. She told her son to give her a heart beat monitor as a Christmas present.
