Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) is intent on establishing a foothold in the fast-growing Indian smartphone market, and plans to use brick-and-mortar stores to help lure shoppers to its line of Pixel smartphones. Google has had several pop-up stores in malls across India and was reportedly encouraged by the response to the stores.

In addition to opening pop-up locations in Los Angeles and NY for the 2017 Made by Google lineup, the company opened a series of similar stores in India. It is said that the company was pleased with the response received to its pop up centers opened recently in Mumbai and Delhi-NCR regions to showcase the newly launched Pixel 2 smartphones.

The tentative timeline for the physical Google stores is in the latter part of 2018. One executive at a mall claims that the pop-ups have imparted on Google how retail is "important because you can't explain numerous features online".

Will it snow in Ballard for Christmas? Yes
A wintry mix descended on the Tri-State Area on Christmas Eve night, prompting a winter weather advisory for parts of the area. Westerly winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour are expected, though gusts could reach 40 to 50 miles per hour .

Google responded to a Reuters query saying that it does not comment on rumours or speculations. In the past, Google has relied on the Play Store online and third-party retailers to move units.

This retail expansion comes as more than a dozen pop-up stores opened in recent months throughout the country proved successful. "We had done two stores as part of the pilot and then we could not proceed with the project as they did not meet with our desired objectives", said Chief Executive of Spice Connect, Dilip Modi. "They got a flavor of how physical stores are also important because you can't explain numerous features online", a top mall executive told the site. Samsung, Apple, Motorola, and popular Chinese brands have already set up stores in the country and are further pushing sales via these offline stores. They got good traction.

Sources speaking to Economic Times said the retail stores could carry other Google products as well, including Google Home, Chromecast, Pixel laptops, and Daydream View.
