Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus faces up to two months out after suffering an injury in the goalless draw at Crystal Palace.

"I don't know (what's going to happen) but he's a player of Arsenal and I think he is going to stay there", Guardiola added.

But on 23 minutes he broke down again and was replaced by Pep Guardiola as Sergio Aguero came on in his place.

Palace earned a penalty in stoppage time when Raheem Sterling brought down Wilfried Zaha but the normally reliable Luka Milivojevic had his spot kick saved by Ederson.

The runaway Premier League leaders attempted to sign the Chilean last summer and are expected to finally get their man at the end of the season when his Arsenal contract runs out.

Guardiola had already expressed concerns Jesus could be ruled out for up to two months when he said: "Gabriel will be out for maybe a little more than one month".

"We were lucky against Tottenham, with Kevin, we were lucky against Newcastle, (with Ilkay) Gundogan; today we will see what happens".

Guardiola was asked about speeding up an approach for Alexis, the player they made a late bid for on Transfer Deadline Day but failed.

In the resulting break, Kevin De Bruyne was hacked down by Jason Puncheon. Maybe he will not be ready for Watford game.

Manchester City now sit 14 points clear at the top of the league. "Protect all the players please from situations that are unsafe". We had problems getting going. "We are in December, there are lots of games to play".
