US Cuts Off $255M in Foreign Military Aid to Pakistan

The remarks came days after US President Donald Trump accused Pakistan of giving Washington "nothing but lies and deceit".

Asif declared that United States have suffered huge losses in Afghanistan.

Speaking during a meeting here on Thursday of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security, the Foreign Minister said the Trump administration disregarded the facts presented by Pakistan about the situation in Afghanistan.

Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif on Thursday said that Pakistan can survive without taking aid from the United States as it survived in the past [when U.S. had suspended assistance to Pakistan]. He reiterated longstanding allegations that Pakistan gives "safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan".

President Donald Trump is lying when he says that the USA gives tens of billions of dollars to Pakistan yet gets little in return, the country's foreign minister said on Tuesday.

Pakistan's foreign minister, Khawaja Asif, told Geo television on Monday that Pakistan has already refused to "do more" for the United States. "If the funds that Pakistan receives from the USA are cut off, this can exert direct pressure on Pakistan and we welcome this effort".

They note that current tensions with Russian Federation and Iran leave the Trump administration with nearly no options but to rely on Pakistani supply routes to sustain the Afghan military mission.

US officials have long accused Pakistan of allowing terror networks to operate within the country's borders.

Speaking earlier with BBC Urdu, Khan said Washington ought to "prefer" cooperation over confrontation, noting that half of Pakistan's airspace and land routes were still open to the United States - and without them, its ability to operate in Afghanistan would be greatly diminished.

But on Tuesday, Pakistan called Trump's tweet "completely incomprehensible" and at odds with recent "trust-building" visits by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Mattis.

The Haqqani Network was held responsible for terror attacks on Embassy and Consulates General of India in Afghanistan in the past.

The former diplomat who hosted Trump as the candidate for his first major foreign policy speech called for suspension of economic assistance to Pakistan, holding Pakistan accountable before regional and worldwide organizations in association with India and Afghanistan.

Afghanistan and rival India praised Trump for blaming Pakistan.

"Pakistan has made tremendous efforts and sacrifices in combating terrorism and made outstanding contributions to the global anti-terrorism cause", said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang in Beijing.

Islamabad could "review its cooperation if it is not appreciated", declared Pakistan's Ambassador to the United Nations Maleeha Lodhi in condemning the Trump administration's aggressive stance against Pakistan's alleged support for jihadist groups, reports the Agence France-Presse (AFP) news agency.

China is investing billions of dollars to help build a network of power plants, rail, road, and communications in Pakistan.

The minister said Washinton and New Dehli believe the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project was posing threats to their interests.
