Gutekunst has been Green Bay's player personnel director for almost two years, though he has been with the Packers' player personnel department for almost two decades.

Thompson had been the team's GM since 2005 and will assume a role of senior advisor to football operations.

With Brian Gutekunst securing the job, only five days after it officially was open, Ball's candidacy has collapsed.

Gutekunst has been with the Packers almost 20 years, joining the franchise in late 1998.

California Dreamin': Falcons Begin Road Back to Super Bowl vs. Rams
Falcons kicker Matt Bryant is on quite a run. "I try to focus or worry or lend my brain space to trying to win games". The Rams had a streak of 10 straight losing seasons, but turned things around under first-year coach Sean McVay .

The Houston Chronicle first reported Sunday that Gutekunst had taken the job. In previous off seasons Gutekunst has also interviews for management positions in San Francisco and Buffalo. A promotion from within isn't surprising for Green Bay, but the team may have been interested in an outside hire before making the promotion.

Green Bay reached out to Seattle, according to reports, and requested an interview with Schneider, but were denied the opportunity by the Seahawks.

The Packers had to tread through some drama. He was promoted to his current position two years ago.

That's good news for Mike McCarthy, who reportedly isn't in good graces with Ball and could've been out as the Packers' head coach if Ball was named GM.
