Miller criticized CNN's coverage, and CNN host Jake Tapper pressed Miller to answer his questions.

Miller ducked Tapper's other questions about Trump's recent tweets, Bannon's influence on Trump's presidency and policy and a New York Times report in September 2017 that Miller in May helped compose a list of reasons to fire James Comey as director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

"There's one viewer you care about right now", Tapper said, referring to Trump.

CNN's Jake Tapper on Sunday morning made headlines of his own after he cut off White House senior policy advisor Stephen Miller during a contentious interview.

"Your network has been going 24-7 with all of the salacious coverage, and I know that it brings a lot of you guys a lot of joy to try to stick the knife in", Miller said of CNN's coverage of "Fire and Fury", which was written by Michael Wolff.

Bannon's statement continued: "Everything I have to say about the ridiculous nature of the Russian "collusion" investigation I said on my 60 Minutes interview".

Stephen Miller attends a meeting between US President Donald Trump and small business leaders in the Roosevelt Room at the White House in Washington, DC, on January 30, 2017.

When Tapper got to the president's mental fitness, Miller turned it into a full-on slap of CNN, saying there was a "crisis of legitimacy" and a "toxic environment" at the network.

Miller shot back that he was "getting to the issue of your fitness", adding that Trump is a "self-made billionaire" who is speaking for the "people that you don't connect with".

New Search To Find Missing Malaysian Plane
It's been almost four years since the Boeing 777 mysteriously disappeared from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board. The plane vanished over the southern Indian Ocean on 8 March 2014 in one of the biggest mysteries in modern aviation.

"I saw a man who is a political genius", Miller said, adding that as a candidate, Trump had "tapped into something magical that is happening in the heart of this country".

Members of the Trump administration and Republican lawmakers flooded the airwaves on Sunday to vouch for the president's intellectual bona fides and to attack Wolff.

'Steve Bannon's eloquence in that description notwithstanding, it's tragic and unfortunate that Steve would make these grotesque comments, so out of touch with reality and obviously so vindictive, ' Miller said.

Mr Wolff's book, Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, paints an unflattering portrait of Mr Trump, claiming the President's staff - and even his family members - regard him as "like a child". He urged his followers to "watch the hatred and unfairness of this CNN flunky!" His kicker was, "And I think I've wasted enough of my viewers' time".

My support is also unwavering for the president and his agenda - as I have shown daily in my national radio broadcasts, on the pages of Breitbart News and in speeches and appearances from Tokyo and Hong Kong to Arizona and Alabama.

NBC News has not confirmed much of the book. Ronald Reagan had the same problem and handled it well.

Tapper grew exhausted of Miller repeating pro-Trump and anti-Bannon talking points and called the aide's constant interruptions "hysterical, ' as he cut the interview short by announcing, 'I think I've wasted enough of my viewers" time'.

"Because it's my show, and I don't want to do that", Tapper replied.

Growing frustrated as Miller began evading questions and repeating his talking points, and glowing praise of Trump, Tapper cut him off early and went to a commercial.
