Eric Staal will represent Wild in NHL All-Star Game

Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon, who has become a Hart Trophy candidate as league MVP and is tied as the NHL's second-leading scorer, was named to the Central Division's All-Star team Wednesday and will play in his second consecutive NHL All-Star Weekend Jan. 26-28 in Tampa, Fla. The 33-year old leads the team with 19 goals this season.

The All-Star Game will use the same format as the past two seasons, with the four division teams playing in a 3-on-3 round-robin tournament.

As Blues team captain, Pietrangelo has made his presence known in multiple facets of the game, notching a plus-15 rating for the season.

Nikita Kucherov and Andrei Vasilevskiy are locks for this game, with defenseman Victor Hedman also deserving.

The NHL All-Star Game will be a terrific experience for Noah Hanifin, and the Carolina Hurricanes will benefit from that in the long run to be sure. His 27 wins are three more than his closest competitor, and he's put up a League-best six shutouts, two more than any other goalie.

For the first time in his three-year career, Jack Eichel is an All-Star. Coach Jon Cooper will coach the Atlantic team. Among all defensemen, the King City, Ontario native ranks 10th in points, second in even-strength points (21), eighth in goals, 12th in assists, ninth in plus/minus and ninth in ice-time per game (25:36).

The league on Wednesday announced rosters for the January 28 event at Amalie Arena in Tampa (3:30 p.m., NBC).
