Zainab is the eighth child to have been raped and murdered in Kasur in the last 12 months, according to police.

"The condemnable and horrific rape of the minor had once again exposed how vulnerable children are", he tweeted.

'This is not the first time such horrific acts have happened. "We have to act swiftly to punish the guilty & ensure that our children are better protected", he said. Zainab was an innocent child and she was horrifically tortured & murdered, my heart breaks for her family.

The protesters, mainly students staged a sit in and blocked a major highway in Lahore, the capital of northeastern Punjab province, Geo TV reported.
