Murphy signs executive order ensuring equal pay for women

Murphy held a round-table discussion with workers in Newark as part of his campaign promise to increase the state's minimum hourly wage from $8.60 to $15 and on expanding paid sick leave statewide. As President Kennedy once said, "we celebrate not the victory of party but the celebration of freedom".

Murphy says the order covers his administration's code of conduct. With Democrats in control of the statehouse and the legislature, New Jersey businesses are likely to see major changes in state labor and employment law and related policies soon.

Each of the three elected governors before Christie broke one of their legs during their term, former Obama administration official Eric Columbus noted on Twitter.

Originally from the suburbs of Boston, Murphy, a former Goldman Sachs executive and USA ambassador to Germany, has spoken frequently about how he was inspired to serve by the Kennedys.

"We do things 'not because they are easy, but because they are hard, '" Murphy said yesterday as he paraphrased the former president.

This Order, effective February 1, aims to address gender pay inequity-one of 29 issues expressly articulated on Gov. Murphy's campaign website.
