Chicago is one of 20 cities to make the narrowed list of potential locations for Amazon's second headquarters.

Other parts of the proposal included incentives to locate the headquarters in a distressed area of the city, tax credits to invest in rural broadband, individual income tax deductions for Amazon employees who relocated to Missouri and refundable contribution tax credits in return for Amazon's investments in science and technology-focused educational programs for Missouri's youth.

Seattle-based Amazon solicited proposals in September for its second corporate seat, a project that's expected to cost more than $5 billion (roughly Rs. 32,000 crores) and create 50,000 high-paying jobs over the next 10 to 15 years.

Amazon received 239 proposals from cities across the US, including Birmingham and Huntsville. Business Council of Westchester officials say they will continue to make sure Amazon knows why Westchester would be the best fit.

Most WA councils have reaffirmed their intention to retain the official date for celebrations and citizenship ceremonies.

"Getting from 238 to 20 was very tough - all the proposals showed tremendous enthusiasm and creativity", Holly Sullivan, of Amazon Public Policy, said in a statement.

Amazon said HQ2 would be an equal to its Seattle location.

The final 20 are the following in no particular order: Atlanta, GA, Austin, TX, Boston, MA, Chicago, IL, Columbus, OH, Dallas, TX, Denver, CO, Indianapolis, IN, Los Angeles, CA, Miami, FL, Montgomery County, MD, Nashville, TN, Newark, NJ, New York City, NY, Northern Virginia, VA, Philadelphia, PA, Pittsburgh, PA, Raleigh, NC, Toronto, ON, and Washington, DC.

Amazon made news earlier this week when One Click Retail revealed that the company now owns roughly one-fifth of the USA grocery ecommerce market.
