Apple HomePod launches February 9 and is available for pre-order starting this Friday, January 26.

Apple, which announced their HomePod smart speaker to great fanfare, wasn't able to get the unit in stores in time for Christmas, digging itself into a deep hole.

Pre-orders for the HomePod will begin Friday.

The end result, of course, is that HomePod will presumably have much better audio quality than similar devices like Amazon's Echo speakers, or the Google Home series.

The iPhone maker, however, is seeking to position HomePod, powered by its Siri digital assistant, as a high-end device designed for music as well as other services. With a multi-HomePod setup, you can set all speakers to play the same song from Apple Music or set it to play a different one in a separate room.

"I think when people listen to it, they are going to be shocked over the quality of the sound, and of course it does a lot of other things", Apple CEO Tim Cook said a year ago at the WWDC, according to BGR. And at launch, Siri voice commands will only work for Apple Music subscribers.

Apple is pitching HomePod as a premium surround-sound music speaker with Siri voice controls.

Iran categorically slams terror attack on a hotel in Kabul
As UNIAN reported earlier, a group of terrorists penetrated into the Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul on the evening of January 20. A woman working for the United Nations in Afghanistan has gone missing along with her son and driver, according to local reports.

Through SiriKit, HomePod supports third-party messaging apps, so users can ask Siri to send a message to a friend or colleague using apps like WhatsApp. For more information visit the Apple website.

HomePod, like the Home Max, uses sound waves to map the room and adjusts its playback accordingly.

A big problem for the HomePod will likely be to do with Siri, which is actually quite far behind when compared to Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa.

When Apple made a decision to delay the release date of the HomePod, the company didn't provide a reason why.

Pre-orders for the HomePod will begin Friday in the U.S, United Kingdom and Australia, two weeks before the speaker goes on sale in stores for $349.

Concerning news and current affairs, Apple has linked Siri to a suite of local outlets, including; ABC NEWS, SBS News, SEVEN NEWS and FOX SPORTS News.

Apple's latest iOS update, rolling out now to iPhone and iPads in the iOS beta program, adds support for Siri's new news-reading powers. Later this year, a software update will let users play music throughout the house with multi-room audio.
