LA middle school shooting: Two students wounded, female student in custody

The victims, a boy and girl, are both 15 years old, police said.

The 15-year-old boy is expected to fully recover. He said she was sobbing and saying, "I didn't mean it".

A 12-year-old girl, also a student at the school, has been taken into custody as a suspect and a gun was found at the scene of the crime.

"As a parent, this is everyone's worst nightmare", said Los Angeles Police Department Deputy Chief Robert Arcos as police unfolded what happened.

Two students were shot, and at least three others were wounded, after a shooting in a classroom at Sal Castro Middle School in the Westlake District on Thursday morning, and a girl described as a "person of interest" is in custody, authorities said...

The assailant was killed by police following the mass shooting in Rancho Tehama Reserve, northern California, which unfolded over several locations in the community, including the elementary school. However, the police spokesman, Josh Rubenstein said that the authorities are believing that the girl didn't intend to open fire but the gun accidentally went off.

"This child was extremely lucky", said Dr. Aaron Strumwasser, a trauma surgeon.

Doctors told reporters Thursday conference that the boy was struck in the temple but no vital structures were hit.

Among the injured are a 15-year-old boy, who was shot in the head. They were treated and released. According to NBC News, the injured are a 30-year-old woman, an 11-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl.

"LAPD police initially tweeted: "#LAPD Sal Castro Middle School on lock down, police are conducting a search of the school.

The school has about 365 students in grades 6 through 8 and most are Hispanic and many from low-income families.
