Police in the USA say they have foiled an alleged plot to kidnap singer Lana Del Rey, after a man armed with a knife was arrested outside a venue where she later performed.

At the time of his arrest, Hunt was in possession of tickets to Del Rey's concert and a knife, the Orlando Police Department said in a statement.

Police didn't reveal the exact wording of the threat, but a Facebook page apparently belonging to Hunt shared several posts leading up to Grant's concert in Orlando, professing his love for the singer and his intent to be with her.

Michael Hunt, 43, was just feet from the Amway Center, where Del Rey was performing on Friday evening.

Authorities also praised the community for tips, noting that without the credible tip, they may "have been unaware of the threat Hunt posed".

Michael Hunt, 43, was arrested near the Amway Centre in Orlando, Florida, and charged with stalking and attempted armed kidnapping.
