Since Bill Belichick became coach of the New England Patriots in 2000, he has seen multiple assistants leave for other jobs. I just feel that way.

New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick did not provide much clarity Monday morning regarding his decision to bench cornerback Malcolm Butler for Super Bowl LII.

It was all set up for Brady to produce another dramatic, winning drive - the ball in his hands, 2:21 remaining - but then it all came crashing down.

"I ain't got nothing to say", Butler told reporters in the locker room after the game, per NFL.com's Kevin Patra.

On the surface, there's no logic behind it. Belichick reiterated his talking points when pressed on a Monday conference call about how he felt not giving Butler any defensive snaps gave the Patriots the best chance to win.

The Eagles shredded the Patriots for 538 total yards, 374 of it through the air, prompting Butler to add, "I could have changed that game". "I didn't know how to feel watching that [expletive] without my homie playing, without Malcolm playing", Browner said in a video he shared.

After the game, Belichick said it was a football decision, not a disciplinary move.

They mystery surrounding his benching may never be solved, but Brandon Browner, a former New England Patriots cornerback who won a Super Bowl with the team, the benching had something to do with marijuana.

A rampant Gunners then made it 3-0 on 19 minutes, with Ramsey scoring again, this time courtesy of a deflected effort. Everton would eventually get one back, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin heading in from a Cuco Martina centre.

Rowe admitted post-game that he only knew he was starting over Butler right before the game began.

Yet for some reason, Butler would not appear in against the Eagles last night.

"We're all just there ready to go". Surely it is wiser than those now being spoken by the all the experts who aren't anywhere near the team and have nothing close to Belichick's credentials.

Only Rice (eight) and Emmitt Smith (five) have more Super Bowl touchdowns than White.

Seven plays later, Foles found Ertz again for a touchdown that put the Eagles up for the good.

After Sunday's game, Belichick denied that the decision had anything to do with player discipline. "He was a favorite for us for what he can do, but ... it probably felt like they can use him, like he was a pawn, a piece of this game".

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport said Butler's benching was a result of what he called "a flawless storm of issues".

Butler was caught on camera during the national anthem. God bless u my friend, keep fighting, I saw you tear up pre game, first sign.
