Auto Expo 2018: Mahindra unveils range of electric vehicles

The FutureS is a compact auto with SUV style is expected to take on Renault's Kwid and Mahindra KUV100.

A total of 100 exhibitors are taking part in the show, up from 88 in the previous expo.

There is also a lot of resentment inside the automotive industry on higher taxes on imported components which many in the industry feel is ruining the competitiveness of Indian manufacturing.

The 14th edition of the Auto Expo is the biggest motor show to have taken place in India, and as such, it will see over 100s of vehicles - nearly 50 of them electric and hybrid - being launched and unveiled during the next few days. The Burgman brand refers to touring scooters that offer its rider wind protection, a relaxed riding position and adequate performance - highlights seen even on the version that will soon go on sale in India, one of the world's biggest automatic scooter markets. It will eventually launch in the Indian two-wheeler market in near future.

Kia and Maruti took the opportunity to launch their new concept cars that will underpin their upcoming models.

The South Korean company of automobiles Kia Motors will introduce a wide range of vehicles which would include an India-exclusive compact electric vehicle in the country between the year 2019 and 2021.

However, the Maruti Suzuki Swift 2018 launch remains to be the highlight event for the company as it has been one of the most anticipated launches in the Indian auto market for more than a year now.

"We are working on developing new technologies and solutions that will match our future aspirations". Our exhibits are a clear indication of our capability to meet the growing aspirations of our customers.

Kia has thus far failed to make forays into the Indian market due to tariffs of up to 60 percent imposed on imported autos.

Over the last few years, sports utility vehicles have become the vehicle-of-choice among Indian buyers, said Peter Schreyer, chief design officer of Kia Motors Corporation. This is by far a large number for any vehicle manufacturer in India and the company is going all guns out keeping the attention to itself.

Maruti Suzuki's Managing Director and CEO Kenichi Ayukawa said, "Small auto is the first choice of Indian customers".
