#WinterOlympics: Team USA gets pumped up on social media

Out of the 244 American athletes making the journey to PyeongChang, only one will have the honor of holding the flag during the Opening Ceremony's Parade of Nations: Erin Hamlin, a four-time Olympian in luge.

Understandable, considering Hamlin failed to make a podium in either of the two World Cup seasons leading up to the Sochi Games.

Voting for Hamlin and speedskater Shani Davis was tied for the honor, which led to the victor being chosen by a coin toss.

"No problem. I can wait until 2022", he added. This year, a rare situation ensued when Hamlin and Davis tied in a vote of 4-4, causing plan B - a coin toss - to take place.

The coin toss is never anyone's preferred outcome, and it's not like Olympic federations are above accusations of shadiness.

Each of the eight United States federations (bobsled and skeleton, ski and snowboarding, figure skating, curling, biathlon, hockey, speedskating and luge) got to vote for a flag bearer. In 2006, he was mischaracterized by fellow USA speedskater Chad Hedrick who accused Davis of betrayal for not skating the team pursuit, blaming Davis for costing Hedrick and the US team a gold medal.

Hamlin, meanwhile, will be the fourth luger to serve as USA flag-bearer. Davis has every right to be disappointed and voice his opinion online.

Eagles assistant takes Vikings' OC job
The Minnesota Vikings have appointed Philadelphia Eagles quarterback coach John DeFilippo as their new offensive coordinator. Before 2015, Barnidge had recorded only 44 catches for 603 yards and three touchdowns in 91 career games.

Davis is black, Hamlin is white.

Though, one has to wonder why he included the Black History Month hashatg, in his tweet.

He said the pick was made "dishonorably" by a simple coin toss.

"That always seems to be a really, really big-name person", she said.

Perhaps it's not surprising that Davis will be joined in Pyeongchang by the first two African-American women to make the USA speedskating team - Erin Jackson on the big oval and Maame Biney in short track.

Another U.S. speedskating teammate, Joey Mantia, said the flag-bearer decision was simply a split decision. Competing in his fifth straight Olympics, Davis has two gold medals (1,000 meters in 2006 and 2010) and two silver medals (1,500 meters in 2006 and 2010).

After arriving on Kim Jong-un's personal jet at the South's Incheon International Airport, she travelled to Pyeongchang to attend the games' opening ceremony.
