They now are in 14th place after their short program and are scheduled to take the ice again Wednesday (Feb. 14) for their final free skate in the pairs figure skating competition.

It's Valentine's Day, and it's the Olympics, so of course Olympians are being a little bit cheesy about Valentine's Day. "One we might never have again", Chris Knierim told USA TODAY Sports. She lost a significant amount of weight, dropping down to 80 pounds. Out of medal contention after their 11th-place short program, they were urged on with spirited precision by the roughly 150 female members of the North Korean cheerleading squad.

However, with the couple's unique backstory and the fact that they are, a couple, their Valentine's Day competition promises to be something special.

The only American pair at the Olympics helped team U.S. win a bronze medal in the team event and overcame some major obstacles to even get there in the first place.

Time Warner Reports Higher 4th Quarter Earnings
Winslow Evans & Crocker Inc sold 14,271 shares as General Electric Co (GE)'s stock declined 7.64%. (NYSE:PX) for 34,247 shares. On average, 23 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report profit per share of $1.43 for the quarter.

The Knierims, competing in their first Olympics, already have a bronze medal from the team figure skating event.

The pair, who began skating together in 2012 and were married by their coach in a skating-themed wedding four years later, bring a story of redemption and reclamation to the 2018 games. "But there was nothing that I could do to help her, even though that's all I wanted to do", Chris told NBC in an emotional interview.

For Scimeca Knierim, the Olympics are an opportunity to "glorify God, and my followers know that that's my goal and it makes me happy", she told People. "But in between is where I can just look at her and skate and, you know, I think people in the audience can see the connection", Chris said.

While Chris and Alexa ultimately finished fourth in this year's competition, they could not care less. After all, why watch the Olympics for the triumph of the human spirit, when you can just tune in for the romance factor?
