Kamal Haasan launches his political party, names it Makkal Needhi Maiam

Kamal Haasan today announced his party at a huge public meeting in Madhurai.

"In a 45-minute speech, Haasan said Makkal Needhi Maiam will be the army for Tamilians" war for justice.

Haasan is expected to visit his hometown Ramanathapuram and also tour the state's Dindigul and Sivaganga districts after launching his party from Madurai.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was on stage with the actor during the launch. Simultaneously, the same was unveiled on all the social media platforms with a message that the party is yours (people) and it is here to stay.

Speaking at the launch, Haasan said he is no more a film star but a "lamp at your house". Aravind Kejriwal echoed the positivity and made his anti-government stance clear by attacking the governments, both at the state-level and centre. Glad to start my journey from a great man's simple abode, the actor tweeted. "I Am sure Kamal Haasan ji, that people of Tamil Nadu will break the record of the people of Delhi" he added.

However, Haasan said he can not be stopped from learning Kalam's lessons though he was "prevented", from visiting the late leader's school.

The symbol of the new political party for which Haasan had "picked ideologies from everyone" is "enjoining hands".

Kamal Haasan, now 62 years of age, began the day with a visit to the memorial of former President APJ Abdul Kalam in Rameshwaram, about 170 km from Madurai.
