Boyle is apparently interested in the 25th chapter of the Bond franchise, which would see him team up with Daniel Craig for his last appearance as the spy. Boyle, who directed "Slumdog Millionaire" and "Trainspotting", is expected to bring some new things to the set of "James Bond" should he be assigned with the role of being the director. Boyle would certainly be an interesting choice for Bond, given his slate of eclectic, often boundary-pushing films.

Danny Boyle, who has always resisted the temptation of big studio movies, has previously been vocal about his desire not to direct a Bond film.

Entertainment trade daily Variety, which broke the story, reports that Oscar victor Boyle is "high on their list" but "no formal offer has yet been made" by Bond producers Eon Productions and studio MGM.

Now, Variety reports that British director Danny Boyle is high on MGM and Eon's list to take charge on Daniel Craig's final outing.

Nolan said: "I won't be the man (to direct the next Bond)". No, categorically. I think every time they hire a new director I'm rumoured to be doing it, ' Nolan had said.

No casting details have been confirmed for Bond 25, but it is assumed Naomie Harris (Moneypenny), Ben Whishaw (Q), Ralph Fiennes (M) and Rory Kinnear (Tanner) will return as Bond's MI6 colleagues. Sam Mendes, who directed it and Skyfall (2012), chose to part ways with the James Bond moniker after that to pursue other projects.
