A few months earlier, she appeared on ABC's "The View", where she took Mr. Cuomo to task for "shortchanging the children of NY".

The actress has begun assembling staff, including two veterans of New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio's election team, NY1 said.

A spokesman for the governor said Cuomo was just trying to have a bit of fun, and is not linking Nixon to the Russian leader.

"Many concerned New Yorkers have been encouraging Cynthia to run for office, and as she has said previously, she will continue to explore it", Capellan told The New York Times.

Aside from Nixon, former Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner is also considering a challenge to Cuomo in the Democratic primary.

Ms. Nixon's celebrity would represent a unique challenge for Mr. Cuomo because of her ability to garner media interest. "Otherwise you won't last long".

"If and when such a decision is made, Cynthia will be sure to make her plans public", she added", according to The New York Times.

Washington state passes law restoring net neutrality
Nonetheless, Inslee praise the state's net neutrality law and "the power of an open Internet". Of particular concern in Washington is the effect on startups with online business models.

"There are a lot of people who would like me to run for a variety of reasons", she said.

He also downplayed questions about Nixon using consultants tied to de Blasio, his frequent political foe.

Cuomo has already announced he will seek a third term in November and is a potential 2020 presidential candidate. Four years ago, Zephyr Teachout, a virtually unknown challenger when she launched her long-shot bid against him, secured 34 percent of the primary vote.

The actress said in a backstage interview after her performance in the one-woman play, "In the Body of the World", that she'd consider running for governor one day.

She recently took a swipe at "corporate Democrats" during her acceptance speech at the Human Right's Campaign's New York Gala, where she received a Visibility Award.

Nixon has been outspoken critic of Cuomo's education policies. Ms. Nixon was a regular presence on the campaign trail for Blasio in 2013, and Ms. Nixon's wife, Christine Marinoni, works in the de Blasio administration.

De Blasio's office didn't immediately comment.
