"Karti Chidambaram today told a Delhi court that the CBI was meting out inhuman treatment" to him in its custody which caused his blood pressure to shoot up.

Karti was arrested by the CBI on February 28 on charges that he used the influence of his father, then the Union Finance Minister, to facilitate foreign investment approvals for the INX Media group in 2007 and 2008 in exchange for financial aid. This was again used as the CBI to seek an extension in custody as the investigating agency said it wanted to confront Karti with the revelations made by Bhaskar. The Bench also directed him to appear for interrogation before the ED as and when required. "We take exception to what you said", the Bench said, forcing Sibal to apologise.

P Chidambaram, a Congress veteran, was serving as the Union Finance Minister during that period.

The agency has alleged that Karti had received funds to the tune of Rs 10 lakh in the case.

Singhvi also argued that the case is ten years old and all documents are available with the CBI.

The tie was virtually already settled after the first leg as the Reds romped to a 5-0 win in Portugal last month. We are improving all the time since I've been here", he said.

An FIR, filed on May 15 a year ago, had alleged irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance to INX Media for receiving Rs 305 crore in overseas funds in 2007 when P Chidambaram was Union finance minister. In return, Karti is alleged to have been paid 700,000 dollars by the two former co-owners of the media house, Peter and Indrani Mukerjea. The court will now hear the case on 15 March, CNN-News18 reported.

Counsel for Karti opposed the further custodial remand of Karti and sought bail by submitting before the court that there was no reason to hold him in custody.

Karti Chidambaram had approached the apex court seeking directions to declare that the ED has no jurisdiction to conduct any investigation unrelated to the allegations in the FIR lodged by the CBI on May 15, 2017.

According to INX Media co-owners Indrani and Peter Mukerjea, now involved in the murder case of Indrani's daughter Sheena Bora, they paid Karti Chidambaram $7 lakh to secure the foreign investment clearance.
