Against incredible odds studiously stacked against him, populist Doug Ford became the new leader of the newly resurrected Ontario Progressive Conservative Party on March 11, 2018.

The election of former city councillor Doug Ford, brother to former controversial mayor of Toronto Rob Ford, was initially disputed by leadership candidate Christine Elliott who cited "serious irregularities" in voting but later dropped her challenge following a review by the party's electoral committee.

The finale was a close run race between Ford and former Tory MPP Elliott.

"Mr. Ford and I disagree on a lot of things", she said Monday morning.

But Fedeli, who was slated to meet with Ford Sunday afternoon, was quick to point out that Ford is both party leader and "the boss". His top concern? Beating Liberal Premier Kathleen Wynne in the general election to be held by June 7.

However, Romano said Ford had a strong following and believes he will be an effective leader.

"I need to focus on what it is that people are saying to me in terms of what they need", she said. "We have a big tent and we welcome everyone", he said concerning the Elliott camp.

Coming in third was Caroline Mulroney followed by Tanya Granic Allen.

When it comes to hot-button social conservative issues like abortion and sexual education in schools, some Ontario Progressive Conservative party members and Conservative strategists are advising their newly-minted leader to tread carefully.

But in spite of Elliott's concession, uniting the party and making it appeal to a range of voters may prove a daunting task for Ford given his brash, often confrontational approach, which he displayed in his brief career in municipal politics and again in his leadership campaign, said Myer Siemiatycki, a political science professor at Toronto's Ryerson University.

Khan says Wynne should push Ford on issues like his "concerning" stance on abortion.

Elliott has painted herself as the only one with the political experience to get the party election-ready in time, while Ford has said his business sense equips him to cut government waste. "We're going to make this province the most prosperous region anywhere in North America to do business in".

The rocket has the code name BFR and is larger than the Falcon Heavy rocket that was successfully launched in February. Elon Musk said on Sunday that his company, SpaceX, is on track to launch a spacecraft for Mars by next year.

Others appeared undisturbed, saying the hurdles would be long forgotten once a leader was chosen.

More than 64,000 votes were cast in the hastily organized and problem-plagued leadership race, but Lefton did not indicate whether any of the votes were being scrutinized.

Saturday's delays also prompted criticism.

"This was pretty much the most mishandled party executive communication exercise I've ever witnessed on television", she said.

"This party is very clearly very fractured".

He is hitting the ground running as the province faces an election in June. "Unfortunately the thing blew apart today".

Brown tweeted his congratulations to Ford on his victory.

"To Kathleen Wynne, I say your days as premier are numbered", Ford said Saturday from the convention in Markham, a Toronto suburb.

If elected premiere of Ontario later this year Ford could also play a part in the next federal election. "We can't wait to take on Kathleen Wynne and start putting money back into taxpayers' pocket".

Fedeli has been serving as the interim leader and will remain the Leader of the Opposition in the legislature because Ford does not now have a seat.

The leadership race itself has stirred strife and forced party brass to defend their decisions on a number of fronts.
